Omschrijving
GALIE are a Mexican outfit who got together in 1979 but released their first album some twenty odd years later. The name "GALIE" is actually made-up of its seven members' first names: Gabriel Tellechea (piano, moog), Alfonso Portilla (drums), Luis Diaz Torre/Leopoldo Cabieses (on flute and guitar respectively), Ignacio Cordero/Ignacio Portilla (on synthesizers and guitars respectively), and Eugenio Barrantes (bass and guitars). The tracks on both of their albums have Spanish titles but are sung in English.
With the Spanish guitar well at the forefront alongside some enchanting flute parts, their brand of acoustic prog has a strong Latin feel although it is still highly keyboard based. Their eponymous album (81) as well as "Galie 2" (86) are both quite original: as romantic as Latin bands can be, featuring remarkable musicianship and effective song writing - elegant and warm, seasoned with wonderful classical piano throughout. Although their debut album has been re-released on CD, the second only seems to be available in its original LP version.
Fans of romantic Italian symphonic prog will no doubt appreciate the finess
