Omschrijving

These 5 CDs contain some of the best music recorded by Hank Snow and his Rainbow Ranch Boys during the period 1950-1956. A time widely recognised as one of his best periods. Yet these 138 tracks were never released by RCA to the public.
The reason is that they were recorded for RCAs Thesaurus label which dealt in transcription recordings for the Country Radio market. Radio stations would buy a transcription disc and using the recorded intros and outros, the transmission would be just like a live Hank Snow session.
Now, courtesy of Bear Family they are available. So, are they any good?
Well, they are more than good, they are absolutely outstanding, and the reason is a simple one. The atmosphere on the sessions sounds happy, relaxed, and as fresh as the day they were recorded. There is no skimping on quality at all; RCA at the time had probably the best recording studios, and Hank was professional in everything he did. The Rainbow Ranch Boys had people like Chubby Wise and Joe Talbot on fiddle and steel, as well as studio musicians like Chet Atkins on sessions.
The songs cover the entire musical range from honky tonk to gospel to lost love to western, all with Hanks great voice and mastery of production.
In many ways, it sounds as though they were playing for the sheer enjoyment of performing. Some songs Hank never recorded for public release, others he tried different interpretations. Each CD reveals more enjoyment as you progress through the box.
Frankly, if the Man from Mars landed and asked about authentic 50s Country music, then just play this for him. It says it all.
As with all Bear Family Box sets you get not only the best sound, but a lovely booklet and the expertise of Charles Woolfe on the discography. The box has great artwork, but the tobacco industry promo photo is a no no for today.
Never mind, this is the real deal. Wonderful.

Veel plezier ermee..
