Omschrijving

Makoto Ozone is a Japanese jazz pianist, born March 25, 1961 in Kobe.

Brought up in a musical rich environment with a father as jazz organist,
Makoto Ozone taught himself playing the blues organ by age four.
He first appeared on TV at the age of six and was performing regularly on Osaka Mainichi Broadcasting.
Ozone turned his attention towards jazz piano at the age of twelve, after attending an Oscar Peterson concert.
He moved to the United States in 1980 to study jazz composition and arranging at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In 1983 he graduated from the Berklee Conservatory of Jazz Arrangement.

He is an exceptional jazz pianist with prodigious technique, classical lyricism, and precise delicacy
who often works with Gary Burton and recorded several fine albums for Columbia before switching to Verve.
The Trio is an ideal introduction to his talents, which also include writing tuneful,
lingering melodies and arranging them into an optimum mix of freedom and form.

His 10th album, sounds like Chick Corea's records of early 70s - Return to Forever being a good example.
Ozone plays the Fender Rhodes on 4 songs. The tone of his mellow electric piano has resulted in a new landscape in jazz.

"With his longtime trio-mates James Genus, bass, and Clarence Penn, drums, the music is magic.
They take a lot of chances with rhythms and melodic lines, and make them work every time."
