Earl Bostic (Tulsa, 25 april 1913 - Rochester, 28 oktober 1965) was een Amerikaanse alt-saxofonist, arrangeur en componist van jazz en later voor R&B en dansmuziek.

Het bekendste was Bostic voor zijn markante alt-saxofoon-sound. Bovendien speelde hij tenor-saxofoon, fluit en klarinet. De romantische, maar ook ondernemende klank van de Bostic-band, gewoonlijk in de bezetting Gene Redd (vibrafoon), Fletcher Smith (piano), Margo Gibson (bas), Charles Walton (drums) en Alan Seltzer (gitaar) en Earl Bostic (alt-saxofoon) was een van de onmiskenbare sounds zowel van de jazz alsook van de R&B. Zijn plaatopnamen waren in de jaren 50 succesnummers in de jukeboxen.

Bostic genoot een elementaire opleiding tot muzikant en kreeg van de Xavier University in New Orleans een onderscheiding in muziektheorie. Hij verhuisde in 1938 naar New York en richtte een jazz-combo op. Tijdens de vroege jaren 40 speelde hij in de band van Lionel Hampton. In 1945 verliet hij de band, richtte opnieuw een combo op, waarmee hij voor Majestic Records opnamen maakte. Het grote succes bleef echter uit, totdat hij in 1948 bij Gotham Records in New York een contract tekende en overging naar de R&B. Met het muziekstuk Temptation had hij direct succes (10e plaats, R&B-charts).

In de verloop van de jaren 50 nam Bostic veel op voor King Records uit Cincinnati, waar hij twee zeer succesvolle singles uitbracht: Sleep (1950, 6e plaats) en zijn grootste succes Flamingo (1951, 1e plaats). De interpretatie van het laatste nummer werd zijn handelsmerk. Tijdens de jaren 60 nam hij voor King Records diverse albums op, waarvan de muzikale stijl in toenemende mate richting soul-jazz neigde.

Op 28 oktober 1965 overleed Earl Bostic op 52-jarige leeftijd aan de gevolgen van een zwaar hartinfarct tijdens een optreden in Rochester.
