Episode Summary:
A woman named Elanor Shellshrop wakes up in a afterlife utopia called "The Good Place," where she is given a introduction from its facilitator Michael. It turns out she was chosen based a series of percentages via doing good deeds, as she was a lawyer who helped get people off death row. Eleanor is also given a soulmate, Chidi, an ethics professor from Senegal. Unfortunately for Eleanor, she suddenly comes clean to Chidi that she isn't the "Eleanor Shellshrop" (she was a fraudulent saleswoman who was foul-mouthed and uncaring towards others) and tells this to Chidi in order to keep her secret. She is then invited to meet her next door neighbor Tahani and her silent soulmate at a gathering, which is making Eleanor jealous of her. As the day ends, chaos ensues when Eleanor's "problems" terrorize the place, and Chidi blames Eleanor.
