Episode 2: Australia and Papua
As he continues to explore the most remote and beautiful places on Earth, pilot Arthur Williams travels to where only flying can reach in the deserts of Northern Australia, the islands of the Coral Sea and the jungles of Papua.
He begins by flying in to see Fred and Sarah, a couple in their 20s who have taken on an Australian cattle station almost as big as Wales. There, he discovers farming Mad Max-style, as helicopters are used to round up thousands of cows in a risky aerial ballet.
Arthur flies on to meet the Turner family, who bought their own desert island in the Coral Sea in 1985, decided to bring up their children more than 300 miles from the nearest city, and have transformed it from rough and ready Swiss Family Robinson-style encampment into a luxury resort where members of the Murdoch family take their holidays.
Finally he joins the flying missionaries of Papua, who pray before each take-off, braving perilous jungle airstrips to bring supplies – and the word of God – to remote villages that have only been reached by outsiders in the last few years.
