Het verhaal:


"Set in nineteenth-century England, the story sees young drawing teacher Walter Hartright (Ben Hardy) encounter a ghostly woman dressed in white on Hampstead Heath.

The 28-year-old offers to help her, but later discovers she has escaped from a lunatic asylum.

He leaves London the next day to take up a teaching post in Limmeridge, Cumbria, under Mr Frederick Fairlie (Charles Dance), where he learns of a connection between pupils Laura Fairlie (Olivia Vinall), Marian Halcombe (Jessie Buckley) and the mysterious woman.

They tell him she is a mentally handicapped child, Anne Catherick (also Olivia Vinall), who grew up in the village, and over the months that follow the young gentleman - who falls in love with Laura, already betrothed to Sir Percival Glyde (Dougray Scott) - starts to uncover her haunting full story".
