Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, to a Serbian family, Dana Gavanski relocated to Montreal for university with initial plans to pursue a film career. A shift occurred when an ex-partner gifted her a guitar, prompting her to relearn the instrument. In 2016, a summer job as a producer’s assistant on a film provided the financial means to dedicate a year to music, leading to her debut EP, “Spring Demos.”

By 2019, Gavanski signed with the record label Full Time Hobby, releasing her critically acclaimed debut album, “Yesterday Is Gone,” in March 2020. This was followed by the covers EP “Wind Songs” later that year. Her sophomore album, “When It Comes,” was released in April 2022, and her third album, “Late Slap,” was released in April 2024.

Gavanski’s career has been marked by significant challenges, including the release of her debut album just as the COVID-19 pandemic prompted widespread lockdowns. The promotional cycle for the record was heavily impacted by the global shutdown, which coincided with her recent move to London.

The creation of her second album, “When It Comes,” presented another major hurdle: Gavanski experienced a period of voice loss that rendered her unable to sing or speak. This personal health crisis profoundly influenced the album’s themes and delayed its production. Despite these obstacles, she has continued to tour extensively throughout the U.K., Europe, and North America, building a reputation for her resilient and evolving artistry.
