º Canadian metalcore band The Luminary is one of the newest bands to º
º come out of Ontario. Kyle, Jake, Alex, and Chad have just released º
º their latest EP, Collective Unconscious through It Djents and has º
º already hit the ground running. º
º º
º The Luminary formed when the members previous bands broke up around º
º the same time. After going through a list of dozens of potential º
º band names, it was eventually narrowed down until they just went º
º with what we (The Luminary) felt represented out sound most. º
º º
º The Luminary pulls influence from a range of bands that go from º
º Volumes, Structures, Architects, Tesseract, Bring Me the Horizon, º
º Northlane, Monuments, Intervals and Misery Signals to Snarky Puppy, º
º American Football, Circa Survive, Karnivool, and The Story So Far. º
º º
º They describe their sound as groovy metalcore with some ambiance and º
º super melodic parts thrown in for good measure. They always try to º
º keep a balance between heavy and melodic riffs while they're writing º
º allowing them to create a sound that can reach out to a wider º
º audience. º
º º
º Their new EP came together very slowly at first. The Luminary º
º explains how the first couple of songs we wrote never ended up on º
º the EP, as we weren’t happy with their overall sound. Once we got º
º closer to a sound we were happy with, the writing process went much º
º more quickly. º
º º
º To actually create each song, they usually start off with a riff º
º that Kyle or Jake has written. [they] then record it in Pro Tools º
º and carve out the song from there. Generally, drums and bass will º
º come next, followed by vocals. [they] have nights where [they'll] º
º all meet up and work on a song together, refining the music as a º
º group. º
º º
º So far, the release of Collective Unconscious has been extremely º
º positive. They've received a ton of good feedback and they're amazed º
º by the sheer number of people that have checked it all out. º
º º
º As a relatively new band in their local scene, they're extremely º
º supportive of the other up and coming bands in Ontario. The Luminary º
º cites SINTHETIK, The Healing, Wind Cries Mary, The Truth Today, and º
º Falsifer as just a few of the talented bands that surround them. º
º º
º Their dream tour would include Volumes, Structures, Monuments, The º
º Afterimage, Auras, really any of the bands that influence [them] º
º would be amazing to tour with. They’d love to hit up all of Canada º
º and the United States. º
º º
º If The Luminary were given the opportunity to collaborate with º
º anyone, each member of the band has their own idea in mind. Alex º
º would pick Diego from Volumes because he always seems to know what º
º makes a song catchy, Kyle would choose Anup Sastry, Jake would pick º
º Karl Schuback because his solo stuff with Solace and everything he º
º puts out with Misery Signals is great, and Chad would pick Sonny º
º Moore because 'dubstep djent!' º
