In 2013, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary with a super-concert. On the platform will be the 'crème de la crème' of the Belgian Jazz scene and it is no accident that they will be the soloists with whom the BJO in the past built up a strong artistic and international circuit. This concert parades the high points of the past twenty years. With the BJO, vocalist Tutu Puoane made the successful CD 'Mama Africa', an ode to South African traditional music and Miriam Makeba. Since 2001, the BJO has worked regularly with guitarist Philip Catherine, a peak in the collaboration being the CD 'Meeting Colours', which features compositions by Catherine, arranged by Bert Joris. Bert has had a tremendous impact on the BJO, not only as a trumpeter, but also as a composer and arranger. The most recent product of their collaboration is the CD 'Signs and Signatures', which the public went wild about. The success of 'Changing Faces' with David Linx in 2007 led in 2012 to the project 'A Different Porgy, Another Bess', a quirky version of 'Porgy & Bess'. 'BJO 20' is a perfect example of the open spirit with which the BJO has given Belgian Jazz a fresh look and carried the flag for it. A constant all these years has been the absolutely world-class calibre of these sixteen musicians.
